Information3. Registration for District Science DayTo register for North Central District Science Day, students need to complete an online registration form and submit an online abstract by midnight Friday, March 12. Additional signed paper forms need to be mailed or delivered. These should be sent with registration fees to: Dr. Brian McEnnisThe registration fee and required signed forms need to be received by Friday, March 12, or be postmarked by Wednesday, March 10. The following items are required for registration: 3.2 Online Abstract 3.3 Registration Fee 3.4 Forms 3.1 Online RegistrationOnline registration will open on January 1, 2010. Registration needs to be completed by midnight on Friday, March 12. To register online, click on the Registration link here or in the navigation bar on the left. Select Create New Account, choose a user ID and a password, and follow the online instructions. Make sure that you remember your user ID and password. You can complete some of your registration now and then log back in later to finish it. You can log in and review or edit information that has been previously submitted. But you must remember your user ID and password to be able to do this. If you have a team project, all members of the team should use the same user ID and password. After you log in, an Information page will appear, explaining the steps for registration. This can be pulled up at any time by clicking on the Show Information link at the bottom of each page. A single online registration will register a project for both North Central District Science Day and the Marion Area Science & Engineering Fair. Most projects are eligible for both science fairs. If your project is ineligible for one science fair (e.g. a high school project that did not qualify for District Science Day) then your registration will automatically be changed to reflect that. High school students may submit entries for two different projects: one for District Science Day and one for the Marion Area Science and Engineering Fair. In that case, separate user IDs must be used for each project. After submitting your online registration, you will be able to submit an online abstract. 3.2 Online AbstractAn abstract of 250 words or less must be submitted online by midnight of Friday, March 12. Abstracts that exceed the 250 word limit will be automatically rejected. You will be able to submit your abstract online at any time after submitting your online registration. Do not put your name and project title on the online abstract - they will be added automatically. If you already have an abstract on a computer, you can paste it into the online abstract form. Information on the requirements for an abstract can be found in the Science Day Standards of The Ohio Academy of Science and the Rules booklet and Student Handbook of the Society for Science & the Public, all of which are available at Rules. 3.3 Registration FeeThe entry fee for the North Central District Science Day is $20 for an individual project and $30 for a team project. Fees may be paid in cash, or by check or money order, payable to The Ohio State University. A school purchase order, made out to The Ohio State University, may also be used to pay fees. Any student who has already paid an entry fee for the same project for the Marion Area Science & Engineering Fair does not need to pay again for District Science Day -- one fee covers both entries. The online registration page will enable you to submit entries to both science fairs simultaneously. High school students may submit entries for two different projects: one for District Science Day and one for the Marion Area Science and Engineering Fair. In that case, separate entry fees need to be paid for each project. Fee payments should be enclosed with the signed forms required for entry. These need to be received by Friday, March 12 or should be postmarked by Wednesday, March 10. 3.4 FormsIn addition to the online registration, students need to send in copies of signed forms: a Consent and Release form and forms developed by the Society for Science & the Public. Links to pdf versions of these forms, and additional information about the forms, may be found at Forms Important: Do not send in originals of your signed forms; send in photocopies instead. If your project is selected for State Science Day, then you will need to make additional copies from your originals to send in with your State Science Day registration. You will also need to make copies of your original forms if you are selected for the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair or the SSP Middle School Program through the Marion Area Science & Engineering Fair. Copies of completed forms should be sent with registration fees to: Dr. Brian McEnnis Forms must be received by Friday, March 12 or be postmarked by Wednesday, March 10. Important: Projects involving human research must be reviewed and approved by an Institutional Review Board before experimentation begins. This includes any surveys or questionnaires to be used in a project. See Institutional Review Board for details. Important: Some projects involving research risks or issues and special protocols must be reviewed by a Scientific Review Committee before experimentation begins. These are projects involving:
See Scientific Review Committee for details. The Scientific Review Committee at OSU Marion can be used to review and approve these projects. In this case, please be sure that the paperwork is sent in early enough so that projects can be approved before experimentation begins. Important: Projects that involve hazardous substances or devices need to be approved by a Designated Supervisor before experimentation begins. Projects in the above categories that have not received the appropriate prior approval will be disqualified. Back to top | Previous page | Next page | Table of contents |
