The following awards are expected to be presented at the 2009 Marion Area Science & Engineeering Fair. Some of these awards have not yet been confirmed, so changes to this list may occur. Category AwardsTrophies for the top students with projects in:
Grade Level AwardsTrophies for the top students with projects in each of the grades 7-12. Team AwardTrophies for the members of the top team. The Ohio State University at Marion ScholarshipsTwo scholarships worth $500 each toward any course at OSU Marion for the top 12th grade project and the top 11th grade project. Marion Technical College ScholarshipsFour scholarships worth $300 each toward any course at MTC for the top individual projects in Behavioral & Social Sciences, Computer Science & Mathematics, Engineering, and Medicine & Health.B-WISER ScholarshipsTwo $100 scholarships to the BWISER summer science camp for seventh grade girls. Governor's AwardsGovernor's Awards certificates for Excellence in Student Research in the following areas:
American Meteorological Society AwardsTwo certificates for projects in atmospheric sciences. American Psychological Association AwardA certificate recognizing outstanding research in psychology under the category Behavioral & Social Sciences. American Water Works Association AwardsTwo $50 savings bonds. ASM International Foundation AwardA certificate and medallion for the best materials engineering project. Association for Women Geoscientists AwardA certificate for the top female student with a project in the geosciences. Herbert Hoover Young Engineer AwardSponsored by the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association. A certificate and a medallion for the outstanding engineering project. Intel Excellence in Computer Science AwardA certificate and $200 for the top high school project in Computer Science. Mu Alpha Theta AwardA certificate for the project that has the most challenging, thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving modern mathematics. The Mu Alpha Theta is not limited to projects in the Mathematics category. National Society of Professional Engineers AwardA certificate, lapel pin, and a subscription to Engineering Times for the outstanding Engineering project. Ricoh Sustainable Development AwardA certificate and entry into a drawing for a digital camera. Scientific American Education AwardsEighteen one-year subscriptions to Scientific American magazine. Society for In Vitro BiologyA certificate for an 11th grade project in the area of plant or animal in vitro biology or tissue culture. Stockholm Junior Water PrizeSponsored by the Water Environment Federation. A certificate and advancement to the state competition for the top high school project that aims to improve the quality of life through improvement of water quality, water resources management, water protection, or water and wastewater treatment. U.S. Air Force AwardsFour awards of a Techfolio containing a Franklin Spelling Ace/Thesaurus and a pen/pencil set, along with a certificate and a medallion. U.S. Army AwardsFive awards for high school projects in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. The top three of these projects will also be awarded an "Army Black Polo" shirt. The top project will be awarded the Army's bronze medallion for science and engineering excellence. U.S. Department of Health & Human Services AwardA Special Award Certificate, signed by the Surgeon General, for the project which best illustrates the importance of physical activity and diet, or which best highlights the risk factors associated with tobacco use. U.S. Metric Association AwardA certificate for a project that involves a significant amount of quantitative measurement and which best uses the SI metric system for those measurements. U.S. Navy/Marine Corps: Naval Science AwardsSponsored by the Office of Naval Research. Certificates for the top two high school and top three middle school students. The high school awards include a $50 educational recognition award. Water Environment Science AwardSponsored by The Northwest Ohio Water Environment Association, for a project on wastewater/water reclamation. The winner will receive a $100 savings bond. Yale Science & Engineering AwardA certificate and medallion for the most outstanding 11th grade project in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.
