North Central District Science Day

The twenty-seventh annual North Central District Science Day will be held March 20, 2010.
North Central District Science Day is a program of the Junior Academy
of The Ohio Academy of Science,
and is held at the Alber Student Center, The Ohio State University at Marion, in
conjunction with the
Marion Area Science & Engineering Fair
All students in grades 5-12 who earn a Superior rating
in their local, city, or county Science Days, and who are enrolled in any school
in the district (including home schooling), are eligible to enter the North Central District Science Day.
Students compete at North Central District Science Day for an opportunity to participate in
State Science Day,
to be held at the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University on May 8, 2010.

New: Students in Grades 5 & 6 Eligible for State Science Day
The Ohio Academy of Science has adopted a new rule: In 2010, the North Central District will be able to select up to five projects from grades 5 and 6 to compete at State Science Day. (In the past, only students from grades 7-12 were eligible.) Projects must earn a Superior rating at the District Science Day to be considered.
Kathleen Jackson, Ellen McDevitt-Stredney, Leah Rogers, Alec Stansbery, and Alex Bogard Win Scholarships at State Science Day
Several students who qualified at North Central District Science Day won scholarships at State Science Day at OSU Columbus on May 9.
Kathleen Jackson, a sophomore at Rutherford B Hayes High School, won an Ohio Wesleyan University State Science Day Scholarship and a Heidelberg Science Scholarship. The scholarship from Ohio Wesleyan is for $15,000 per year, renewable for three additional years if a 2.75 or above GPA is maintained. The scholarship from Heidelberg College is for $7,500 per year, renewable for 3 subsequent years pending a 3.0 GPA.
Ellen McDevitt-Stredney, a sophomore at Buckeye Valley High School, won an Ohio Wesleyan University State Science Day Scholarship for $15,000 per year, renewable for three additional years if a 2.75 or above GPA is maintained.
Leah Rogers, a senior at Ridgedale High School, won a Heidelberg Science Scholarship for $7,500 per year, renewable for 3 subsequent years pending a 3.0 GPA.
Alec Stansbery, a junior at Upper Sandusky High School, won an Ohio State University Food and Agricultural Science Scholarship for $1,000.
Alex Bogard, a sophomore at Rutherford B Hayes High School, won a Stone Laboratory Scholarship, covering room and meals for a one week summer introductory course at Ohio State University's Stone Laboratory.
