• This county actually has a chance of being created. A number of residents of the five "East End Towns" of Suffolk County -- East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton, and Southold -- have wanted to secede from Suffolk county for years. Their web site -- http://www.peconic.net -- explains their reasons. Since Riverhead currently serves as the Suffolk County seat, the remainder of Suffolk will nead a new one. Brookhaven might work, since there are already some county offices located there.
